Dr. Jay Spector, DPM


Dr. Spector has been practicing in the greater Atlanta area since 1994. He specializes in surgery and sports medicine. Since childhood he has been interested in training standard bred racehorses, which relies heavily on gait analysis. Pursuing Podiatric Medicine allows him to put that knowledge to use with people in his chosen profession. He was the consulting podiatrist for the Kennesaw State University athletic teams and lectured for the Georgia Games.

Dr. Spector was the Chairman of the PRESENT Sports Medicine Virtual Conference and the Immediate Past President of American Academy of Podiatric Sport Medicine (AAPSM). He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine, Royal College of Physicians Surgeons of Glasgow. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Podiatric Sports Medicine, from the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Spector is the Global Advisor of Special Olympics Fit Feet. He is a frequent national and international lecturer.

Dr Spector is a Marathon Runner and does Cross Fit training. He is an RRCA/USATF Certified Running Coach and is the Director of the Atlanta Running Institute. A native of New York City, Dr. Spector earned a BA in Economics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. His medical degree came from The New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his surgical training in Atlanta with the Georgia Podiatric Surgical Residency program in 1994. Dr. Spector is married, and has two children. He is a member of Chabad of North Fulton. Dr Spector started Atlanta Sports Podiatry to specialize in treating athletic injuries.

AAPSM Presents Day of Sports Medicine to Students at Western University

American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM) members Drs. Jay Spector and Michael Levi presented a Day of Sports Medicine to AAPSM Student Chapter Members at the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.

Students were treated to lectures on topics such as “A Sports Medicine Approach to Common Running Injuries”, “How to Start a Sports Medicine Practice”, “How to Assess Running Form/Various Treatments”, and “Proper Running Techniques”. The seminar concluded with a workshop on running shoes – the latest styles, heel heights, and how to select different shoes for different sports.
